FAQ

  • How long are sessions?

The initial session is an intake, which takes about 60 minutes. This session is important as it gathers all of the background information about the client(s), presenting concerns, and past experiences. This session allows for us to create reasonable therapy goals, establish a working relationship, and create a foundation for intervention. Ensuing therapy sessions are 45-50 minutes in length.

During the onset of treatment, we normally recommend that clients commit to one session per week.

  • Do you provide online, remote, or video services?

Yes! With the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, many clients have elected to conduct sessions through video for the purposes of safety and convenience. At the same time, our office remains open, which is clean, sanitized, and use of masks is encouraged.

  • I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?

People that utilize the resources of therapy are not weak, at all. In fact, people who ask for help, know when they need it, and have the courage to reach out, will gain the tools they need to grow stronger. We all need help now and then. In our work together, we will help you explore and identify your strengths and how to implement the tools necessary to reduce the influence of any problems you are facing.

  • How long will it take?

Unfortunately, this is not possible to say in a general FAQ’s page. Each individuals circumstances are unique to them and the length of time counseling will be just as unique.

The time it takes to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek counseling in the first place.

  • I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

We are so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions! Your active participation and dedication will be crucial to your success.

  • Is there a charge for missed appointments?

The time scheduled for your appointment is assigned to you and you alone. Occasionally you may need to miss or reschedule a session, but please be courteous with your communication and notify us at least 24 hours in advance. We uphold a 24-hour cancellation policy which means if you are late, cancel or miss an appointment, you will be responsible for paying the full fee of your session. Sessions booked within a 24 hour period are considered confirmed and the same policy is upheld.

  • Do you offer flexible times, including evening and weekend appointments?

Yes! We offer a variety of days and times, including mornings, afternoons and evenings, week days and weekends.

  • Is therapy confidential?

Yes and no. In general, the law protects the confidentiality of all communications between a client and a psychotherapist. Information is not disclosed without written permission, unless requested by a judge/court. However, there are number of exceptions to this rule.

    Exceptions include:

    • Suspected child abuse, dependent adult abuse or elder abuse. All therapists are required by law to report this to appropriate authorities immediately.

    • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm/death to another person/s. The therapist must notify the police and inform the intended victim.

    • If a client intends to seriously harm/kill himself or herself. The therapist will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, further measures may be taken without their permission in order to ensure their safety.

  • How do I pay for sessions?

We ask you to leave a credit card on file before you meet with your therapist. Fees are collected at the beginning of each session. We accept Amex, Visa, Mastercard, HSA/FSA cards, Debit, Cash or Check. Please see the insurance section for those currently being accepted.
